It’s All in the Details: Easy DIY’s Add Big Impact

With the holidays just around the corner, we wanted to share two simple DIY’s that we tried in our homes to add a little festive style to our decor. Both are easy to do and instantly elevate your tree and mantle decor.

Handmade Bows

Handmade bows have a way of bringing that extra bit of elegance and personality to your holiday décor.

How to Make a Simple, Elegant Bow:

  1. Choose Your Ribbon – Go for a fabric ribbon like velvet or silk for a luxurious look. A width of 2.5 to 4 inches is ideal.

  2. Make the Loops – Start by creating two equal loops on either side of your ribbon. Leave about 6-8 inches of ribbon on each end to create tails.

  3. Tie the Centre – Pinch the centre of your loops together, then tie the middle tightly with a piece of wire or a thinner ribbon. Fluff out the loops and adjust them until the bow feels balanced.

  4. Attach Your Bow – Secure the bow to your tree, gift, or anywhere you’d like to add a little festive flair.

Style Your Tree

Carefully placing your bows throughout your Christmas tree adds a beautiful elegance and texture to your tree. Now that you’ve created a timeless element to your decor, you can use them year after year to create holiday memories.

Dried Oranges

Dried oranges are the perfect way to add both natural beauty and a festive scent to your home.

How to Make Dried Oranges:

  1. Slice the Oranges – Use a sharp knife to slice oranges into about ¼-inch thick rounds. The thinner, the better.

  2. Bake Them Low & Slow – Preheat your oven to 200°F (90°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper and arrange the orange slices in a single layer. Bake for about 3 hours, flipping every hour to ensure they dry evenly. The result should be beautifully dried, slightly caramelized slices.

  3. Add the Finishing Touches – Once they’re cool, thread a thin ribbon or twine through the centre and hang them as ornaments.

The citrusy scent from the dried oranges will fill your home with an inviting aroma—nothing says "holiday" quite like it!

Style Your Mantle

Once you’ve created your dried oranges, carefully thread each one on a metal ornament hanger and place them throughout your mantle garland. The oranges add a festive pop of colour and texture to your mantle display.
